UPDATE: April 2008 - I almost gave up on Adobe. Version 5 is the best. Version 8 has major problems other than the file size of 24 MB.
Adobe 9 came out in August 2008, it was still a large file size, but this version has corrected many problems Version 7/8.
If you have trouble reading, open or print the PDF file. Try this solution
Forget about Adobe Reader, too big, too much trouble trying to be a program that does everything.
Foxit 3.0 (PC version) of http://www.foxitsoftware.com FREE .. do not download "free download" PRO PACK.
Just READER FREE.
It is only 3.68 MB (Adobe is about 25 MB) Opens the way, way faster.
I tried it on a PC having problems with Adobe. Foxit open my files without any problem and fine print with magnification capabilities too!
Download the EXE file to install (you can choose not to replace Adobe as "auto open" if you want during the installation) installation makes icons and change what program opens your PDF file. That can be changed at a later date.
Download the ZIP. (It will look like two draws with a clamp around it, or a folder with a zipper on it) Where ever saved ZIP file, just click on the Zip file. You will see an icon Foxit. Double click to start the program. Then open your PDF saved from my site downloaded to any folder (My Documents - Download My)
Thats it. No installation, no, the ZIP version! There are no changes to your computer. I did not get a refund from Foxit. I get more users with problems Adobe.
I create a PDF file with Adobe 8, stupid program they have to work with their own software.
FOXIT PDF reader solution:
You must be in Single Page Mode to "Print View" (enlargement of the page)
View - Page Layout - Single
Scaling page - suitable for paper. You can use the landscape if you are zoomed in (above) if necessary.
Then turn off the "Auto Rotate" when printing landscape.
ADOBE ADVICE:
FIRST: You must have Adobe 5.0 or ABOVE to click or open the file. If the date at the top of the page of the PDF file is from 2007 or later date, I changed to Adobe 8 to create PDF files. I also changed the type of security on the PDF. So you may need Adobe 7 or 8 to open them. Read the warning on the large number Adobe 8.1 problem. Ill check 3.68 Mb Foxit PDF reader for free if you have problems. I will be trying out in the next week. I have 4 computers I tried the files people tell me that they have a problem with. From Win ME to XP and Vista. When one (and only 1 or more per month) tell me that they can not open the file. I went to 4 and they open fine. There calculate 5th (Windows ME) who have a problem opening my files. I use FOXIT, which they are working. As the link below shows, Adobe used to be a simple program. Now the way to complicated and more dolls.
If you try one of the "PDF reader" and not Adobe, you will most likely have problems. If you can not open the file (Adobe screen opens but shows nothing), you can download a PDF file with "Right Clicking" link on my page and save the file to your computer. Remember WHERE you are saving for. Select "MY DOCUMENTS" as the folder to save it. If you can find the file in that folder, which shows the file on a website, but you can grow old Adobe. You still need to have Adobe 5.0 or above to open it from your computer. Adobe 8.1 is the latest version.
It may not work for Vista, the PC version only.
If you are using Firefox, unlike a lot of Adobe (version 2). Change the settings so open in the Adobe program, not in Firefox! Some have reported problems with Firefox and PDF. FireFox 3 Beta 3 is out. This is good, try it. Download and try to open it with Adobe.
Oh my .. Adobe 8.1.2 - many people now have a problem printing and print text.

Think you are the only one with the problem PDF. See the link below.

SECOND: Are you sure you only have one version of the Adobe. If you have an older 3.x or 4.x they remain on your computer after installing 5.x or 6.x. If you click manually and get a statement: "The file is damaged and can not be opened" Ill bet too old version of Adobe Adobe to open the encrypted file. Try to Right click the file and save it to your HD and open it from there to make sure Adobe 5.x or higher is to open the file.
If that does not work, open Adobe 7.x or higher from the system menu and using Adobe FILE - OPEN and go to the file you saved.
Old version of Adobe can be removed separately through the Add / Remove programs. Sometimes they are set to open any PDF through web pages, where as installing new open only when a PDF file is opened from the hard drive. Therefore the problem in time, the Explorer can be set to use the old version of the Adobe.
THIRD: there are known problems opening certain PDF file IN Explorer. It is a matter of Internet Explorer. I have removed that feature from my computer and never had a problem since. To have an open Adobe PDF files by itself:
Go to the Adobe program. Start - Programs - Adobe Acrobat
EDIT - PREFERENCES - OFF THE INTERNET and click the check mark to OPEN IN BROWSER.
Now when you open Adobe PDF files will open.
Have you download the PDF to your PC? If you have, try to open it directly with Adobe 6 with going through the FILE - OPEN - then find your PDF download. If now open, using the suggestions above.
AOL - AOL I have heard great not to pull up the PDF file. Try "Right Click" and save the file to your hard drive and open it from the saved. OR CLOSE AOL version of Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer by itself, go to my site and open www.orphancameras.com PFD file. You cut off part of AOL such problems.
MAC computer - youre on your own with Adobe, my link to 5.1 is for PC only. You still need to have Adobe 5.0 or above to open.
HTML page - I have spent many hours creating PDF files from most of the old HTML manual (standard WEB page). If you find an HTML page and need to print it worth it, just copy the page and place it into Word. Change the margins to .3 on all sides and move the text by adding "ENTER". If necessary, E-mail me with the correct page and I will do it and post it as an additional link on the page. Printing an HTML page manual just to cut any page you want, throw the pictures on one page. Totally screwed up appearances. Thats why it comes with Adobe PDF (Portable Document File) so everyone will be able to have the same output. The good thing on an HTML page is a page that scanned printed text as TEXT so perfect. Inciting overlooked some spelling errors, missing words and other problems. All together it took 5 to 7 hours to do one manual. HTML plus images scanned in old 480x640 screen format. So the picture will fill half a page back in 1995-1999. With the current monitor 17 comes a resolution of 800x600, and then the LCD at 1280x720. So the picture looks smaller unless you select "full screen" for the old camera manual page.
PDF files are scanned at 600dpi (B & W) or 400dpi (color). They are mostly scanned the original size unless they are physically, a small manual. I then scan the entire book at 135% or higher. It brings out the wear defect and enlarged with the "point" of each photo. Ive started scanning "the camera" section at 130% or more. It helps with the detail when finding your camera, magnified scanning at this level also allows better printing.
When you open Adobe, you will see a box enlargement% almost in the middle of the top of the menu. You can enlarge or reduce the amount to view the details of that part or difficult to read text on the screen. When zooming, you may have to scroll to see the entire page.
AN ENLARGED PRINT PAGE: If you have a file open in Adobe (not sure if this always happens when the PDF is open in Explorer) and you enlarge it. You can select "Print Current View" and a magnified view will be printed. You can preview it to see how it will print on the box a little preview. This is a nice feature if I scan a book with two pages and you want one page. Depending on the magnification, the quality may suffer a bit.
Printing is another thing! Increase the size of the VIEW nothing to do with the size of the print (unless you do what I stated above). Since I scan at high resolution you can change the default printing adobe page. Laser Jet Printer: If you have an older model (HP IIIP or IV L) that only print 300dpi, image page will always change effort. Only the changes in technology. The model will print 600dpi print clearer, most any printer after 1995 should be no problem. Jets ink printing is usually good, but you have a lot to adjust the DPI (dots per inch) setting. Dot Matrix printer, I would doubt if they will print legibly. All PDF files (pages) are images, not text. HTML pages are text by adding a separate image. So the old HTML text will always print the printer sees it as beautiful as standard letters. Coupled with easy LaserJets to print text and small images quickly. On the other hand has a PDF is a great "picture" and will print slowly.
When you choose the Adobe user chooses - FILE - PRINT search option called Scaling PAGE.
Select the page with the picture on it. TRY THIS ONLY ONE PAGE by choosing MENU PRINT - PRINT CURRENT PAGE. Then select "Fit to page" on page scale options. You will see the actual page you want to print AND the size it will print on PRINT SETTINGS preview area. By printing one page you can see if the "fit to page" works better then the standard printing methods.
PRINTING IN COLOR manuals or all at once! !
Ink jet printers. If you try to print the old HTML pages with a background color, print a test page. If it starts to print background colors - STOP. You will empty your real color cartridge quickly. Just a warning. Look under your printing options, you will see the option "do not print background" under "PRINTING" - "ADVANCED". Uncheck that option. Now you just have to print text and images, not the background color. SOME printers do it or set it as default. This may need to be reset if you use the old Print Shop program. Those programs need to "print background color".
LaserJet - See above test if you have a color laserjet! Also, if you have a color or B & W laserjet, you many not be able to print the whole book at once. Depending on the amount of memory IN PRINTER, manual color camera can give you problems. Easy solution. In the print menu, select "Print Range" then "Print Page" and then select print page 1 to 10, after it was finished and then 11 to 20 and so on. LaserJets trying to capture print jobs at once. Black and White LaserJets MAY have the same problem. I divided the manual into parts, this helps in downloading and printing. HTML page that more parents will try to print the document as a whole, you may need to manually split into several parts. See above about the old HTML pages. They scored in any way. Some days the PDF version will be available.
Want to be creative. If you want HTML pages to print properly, and I do not PDF manual, do it yourself. When in Internet Explorer, FireFox or Opera opens with the HTML manual. Click on EDIT and then Select All. The page should gray out. Then open Word (or whatever word processor you have) to change the page margins to .3 (point 3 inches) at the top, bottom, left, right and then choose EDIT - PASTE. Once in Word you can move things around, change the size of the image a bit, add a space to move the text to the next page. You can then save and print it. If you have any free PDF creator, you can save as a PDF file. Thats how I do it.
Old LaserJets. If you have a large HP II, III or 4 series. Max resolution (number of points) can score some DPI 300. This will provide a print out is not so great images or text. If you have the ability, change dpi (dots per inch) to 600. It will give you great prints. The more DPI, the slower the page will print. You lot get "out of memory" or "memory overload" when trying to print the manual once. Once again, turn off the printer, count to 5, then turn. If the printer continues to provide "Out of Memory" begins right after the printer, the print job in the cache. You have to remove the "work" by going to START - SETTINGS - PRINTERS - Right-click on the printer and select OPEN. List print "job" will be displayed. Right-click on the job and select DELETE. Now your printer will start correctly.
Then print at 600 dpi tried only 5 pages at a time or less. Some older HP LaserJets comes with base memory (256K, not MB!). Printing text is never a problem because the printer has a built-in PDF text letter is a group of DOTS, print and recall approximately 600,000 dots per page was a challenge. So if you have a memory error print 5 pages at a time, try one page at a time. You do not have to wait for each page to exit the printer, simply choose to only print the first page, then select only page 2, then only page 3, the computer will cut the pages and holding them in computer memory (hard drive) until the printer is ready for the next single or a group of pages. Or today, copy the file to the memory stick, take it to work and scored for their network printer $ 3,200! There you go ... Also try your local library, they charge per page but usually not much.
- Problems -
Many of my older manual HTML (web page basis). This page will translate the camera manual (as well as any translator could free) text into four languages above. Actually if you go to the main page, it will translate an entire web page as you go through the site. The manual is scanned first for pictures, once again, to text by OCR (optical character reader). They then taped together to make it look like the manual again. This was back in 1996 until 2003 when I changed it to a PDF. So the old HTML manual is just that. If youre picky, you can save Web pages and then try to open it in Word or something and add a blank space to move them around. Printing them is a pain. Remember, the paperless society! There is no code to make them print on the page. Nothing fancy here. If you are on dial-up. Drawing on an HTML page may take a while to load. Sometimes just right click on any blank picture and click the "show" will reload if needed. If you want to keep it, for further reference, select the "FILE" and SAVE AS your browser, then CREATE A SEPARATE FOLDER under your "MY DOCUMENTS" called the name of the camera. This will save the HTML and images in that folder. If you do not create a separate folder, you will have problems. You can also click "refresh" if all pictures do not show. If you have a problem, write to me. I have solved them all. Therefore, moving to a PDF. [Or use COPY and PASTE to Word (or other word processor program) and change image size and add space to move the text around.] Will print the entire page like a manual. I watched them enough to make them very easy to read. BUT, it will print the size of the scanned page on page 8 1/2 x 11. Therefore the help section above. If you have an old or laserjet printer, just maybe 300dpi printer and it will not help get great quality images in the page. PDF files that DOTS so if you enlarge a page of text "DOTS" bigger and does not look good. HTML pages are actual letters, so they print text and graphics are excellent. They only take 4 to 5 hours to make just one user. They will slowly be converted to PDF so you will have a choice.
YOU MUST HAVE Adobe 5.0 or above for the file or OPEN CLICK on it. That is the default setting when Im saving on my Adobe programs have. I added a link above to version 5.1 if you have an old computer with lots of memory or disk space. Version 6.1 is quite large and memory hungry. I believe Version 7.1 and 8.1 is even greater in the download size and memory requirements. Adobe files created with Version 8, with additional security features. You can not open or copy the image files or text within files. It is a safety feature I need. There are too many people on the web that will steal your work and claim itself.
